The path toward autonomous driving can be described in five stages:
• Assisted driving
• Partially automated driving
• Conditionally automated driving
• Highly automated driving
• Fully autonomous driving
The phases are listed in a table that also includes a brief description of the phase, the role of the driver and the car, as well as examples of the respective phase. The text also discusses the advantages and disadvantages as well as the opportunities and challenges.
