Symmetry is an everyday phenomenon that the students can recognize in many things in their environment if they only look more closely. Also suitable as an incentive for them to explore on their own and look for symmetry.

Information and ideas:
The jumping jack shown is not purely symmetrical with respect to reflection, but at first glance the students might think it is. The image can be used as a stimulus to motivate the students to design their own jumping jacks with reflection symmetry.
