This teaching unit is designed for a period of two lessons. It can be used for teaching information technology from grade level 10 in secondary schools, as well as in cross-curricular teaching together with mathematics at grade levels 11 and 12.
This teaching unit offers an introduction to the principles of information processing by addressing the inherent nature of information and speech and emphasizing the central significance of the binary system and binary code which is based on this system. The teaching unit can also be used to provide guidance on the topics of “programming languages" or “data storage (bit/byte) and processing".
The media files (graphic, sample audio clips, simulation, information sheets, worksheet, technical guidelines, applet and Internet links) support practical, real-world-oriented teaching. Allotment of time in the lessons and the use of the media files are outlined in teaching methods for teachers.
