Description:
At first glance, the malleus connected to the eardrum from outside seems to be a quirk of evolution. For its purpose it would seem to be enough or to be better to be connected inside. But it seems also that better hearing of higher frequencies (speech development) resulting from the taut membrane in front of the malleus was so important. That would explain this seeming quirk of evolution.
