Description:
Data compression methods reduce the size of files so that they need less storage space or bandwidth. In principle, there are two types of compression methods:
• lossless compression
• lossy compression
The compression method applied especially to audio files for converting files to the MP3 format takes advantage of the limitations of the human ear and compresses music such that people do not hear any difference. The information sheet also describes the opportunities and challenges of such compression methods.
