With periodic sound signals the basic pattern is repeated continuously. A synthetic test tone, and the tones of a tuning fork tone and a violin are used as examples to further explain periodic tones.
Aperiodic tones on the contrary are composed of many individual vibrations, the frequencies of which are not in integral relation to each other. The examples of noise and bang are used to explain this further.
