Media package:
Description:
In a storage power plant, naturally flowing water is dammed up by means of an artificial reservoir and stored for times of peak demand. The accumulated water is then fed to the turbines of the low-lying power plant via penstocks. All the potential energy of the water in the storage reservoir is thus an energy store for times of peak demand. Smaller storage power plants use Pelton turbines, while large storage power plants (high pressure and large volume of water) use Francis turbines.
